Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a non-contact automatic identification technology. Its basic principle is to realize the automatic identification of the identified object by using the transmission characteristics of RF signal and spatial coupling (inductive or electromagnetic coupling) or radar reflection.

RFID reader communicates wirelessly with RFID electronic tag through antenna, which can read or write tag identification code and memory data. A typical RFID reader / writer includes an RFID RF module (transmitter and receiver), a control unit and a reader antenna.

In RFID system, electronic tag is also called RF tag, transponder and data carrier; Readers and writers are also called readout devices, scanners, communicators and readers (depending on whether the electronic tag can rewrite data wirelessly). The spatial (contactless) coupling of RF signals is realized between the electronic tag and the reader through the coupling element, and the transmission and data exchange of RF signals are realized in the coupling channel according to the timing relationship.
